Police began a homicide investigation Tuesday after a 27-year-old Anaheim man died of gunshot wounds suffered during a weekend fight in an apartment complex.

Jose A. Baltazar, 25, was pronounced dead about 11 p.m. Monday at UCI Medical Center in Orange, said hospital spokeswoman Fran Tardiff.

Baltazar was shot three times in the legs and abdomen after an argument about 2 a.m. Sunday at 1000 E. La Palma Ave., said Anaheim Police Lt. John Cross, who added that he does not know what the argument was about.

Police found Baltazar when investigating a call that a shooting victim was being driven away from the crime scene. Officers stopped a car answering the description and found the victim and some of Baltazar’s friends inside, Cross said.

Witnesses told police that Baltazar and another man were armed with guns during the argument. Cross said one handgun was found at the scene of the shooting, but he did not know whether anyone else was wounded.

No one has been arrested, police said.
