SANTA PAULA : House Fire Causes $250,000 in Damage

Share

A fire ripped through a two-story hillside residence in Santa Paula, causing about $250,000 in damage to the house and its contents, Santa Paula Fire Chief Paul Skeels said.

The family dog died in the blaze. No other injuries were reported in the fire Wednesday, Skeels said.

An overloaded extension cord ignited the fire in a downstairs bedroom of the wood-frame structure in the 500 block of Monte Vista Street, Skeels said. Flames spread to the house’s electrical box and made it impossible for firefighters to turn off the power, he said.

Firefighters from Santa Paula and Ventura County responded to the blaze with four engines, a truck and rescue apparatus at 2:59 p.m. The fire was under control by 3:15 p.m, Skeels said.

Damage to the house, owned by Robert Cobos, was estimated at $150,000, and damage to the contents at $100,000.

Cobos could not be reached for comment.
