A 26-year-old Garden Grove auto theft suspect led police on a car and foot chase Monday that ended in Stanton, where he was arrested.

Ramon Ramirez was arrested on several charges after he and an accomplice crashed a stolen vehicle into a street sign and tried to flee on foot, police said.

The incident began when an employee at Mitsubishi Corp., 6400 Katella Ave., called police at 1:31 p.m. to report an attempted auto burglary in the parking lot, police said.

A company security guard kept the suspects from driving off until police arrived. The suspects fled in a previously stolen car when the officers got there, police said.

Cypress police units followed the car to Stanton, where the suspects crashed into a street sign at Rose Avenue and Pacific Street, police said.

Both suspects hopped out of the car and ran south, police said. Police arrested Ramirez after a Brea police dog sniffed out Ramirez in a closet inside a converted garage at 10772 Cedar St. in Stanton.

Ramirez was arrested on suspicion of attempted auto burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, felony evading police, and possession of stolen property and vehicle burglary in connection with the stolen vehicle he and his accomplice fled in. He was booked at Cypress Jail in lieu of $25,000.

Police said the second man escaped and is being sought.
