Walsh Discusses Stanford Job With Leland

Bill Walsh, former coach of the San Francisco 49ers, has met with Stanford Athletic Director Ted Leland to discuss the Cardinal’s vacant head football coach’s job, the Peninsula Times Tribune reported Tuesday.

“All I can say is that I’ve talked with Ted Leland about the job, but that doesn’t necessarily mean I’m a candidate,” Walsh said. “I’ve helped them in the past, looking at other candidates.”

Stanford assistant coaches Willie Shaw and Ron Turner reportedly are the leading candidates to replace Dennis Green, who resigned last week to become the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings.
