UC San Diego made Division II University of Puget Sound the latest casualty in its six-game winning streak with a 78-75 victory Tuesday at Triton Gymnasium. The Tritons (11-4) clung to a 31-30 halftime lead but shot 56% from the field in a hot second half.

Chris Moore and Rick Batt scored 25 points each to pace UCSD. Puget Sound fell to 9-5.

Point Loma Nazarene collapsed in the second half and lost a Golden State Athletic Conference game at Christ College Irvine, 88-84, in overtime. The Crusaders (8-8, 0-1) led, 45-36, at halftime. Donnie Buettner had 23 points and nine rebounds, and Rusty Fallin added 20 points for PLNC.

Peter Holt, a kicker from Antelope Valley High, also committed to the Aztecs.

All three players canceled further recruiting trips. Matt Roe told Arizona and Washington State of his decision and Mark Roe informed Washington State and University of the Pacific he will not go on scheduled campus visits.

Torrey Pines Coach Ed Burke said coaches from all three schools still are pleading their cases.

After earlier visiting Nevada-Las Vegas, the Roes visited SDSU last weekend and made up their minds Sunday.

Holt canceled proposed recruiting trips to UCLA and Hawaii.

Holt decided on the Aztecs after visiting the campus in the first weekend in January, saying the opportunity to play right away was an important factor. He averaged 39.2 yards as a punter and also converted on eight of 17 field-goal attempts and 15 of 18 conversion kicks in 1991.

Holt made the trip to San Diego State with teammate Freddie Edwards, who lives with the Holt family. Edwards--one of the San Fernando Valley’s most sought-after players who excelled as both running back and defensive back for the Antelopes--also has visited Utah and plans trips in the next three weekends to Washington, Hawaii and USC.
