COUNTYWIDE : Transit Committee Nominations Sought

Share

Orange County transportation officials are seeking nominations for 22 seats on an advisory committee dealing with special transit needs of the elderly and the disabled.

The Special Needs in Transit Advisory Committee will meet once every two months to review policies and develop eligibility guidelines for special transit services. Those guidelines are required by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

Acting as directed by the new law, the Orange County Transportation Authority last week announced plans to phase out some special transit service to people who are physically able to get to regular bus stops. The result should be to free up more services to passengers unable to make it to the regular stops.

OCTA officials said they are seeking individuals who represent care providers, service agencies and coalitions for the disabled whose programs rely on transportation for their clients. Disabled individuals and seniors with special needs in transit are also being sought.

Nomination forms are available by calling Kathy Zeutzius at OCTA’s community relations office, (714) 571-5835.

The 11 members of the OCTA board will each choose two panel members. Deadline for nominations is Feb. 14.
