PLACENTIA : Warehouse Rejected at Tri-City Park

After hearing protests from some of the 40 residents in attendance, the City Council voted this week to deny an appeal by the Southern California Water Co. to build a warehouse at Tri-City Park.

The council’s 5-0 decision Tuesday came after the city Planning Commission’s unanimous vote last month recommending rejection of the water company’s proposal.

The water company had sought to build an office and storage warehouse on a 14,198-square-foot site that it owns at the park. A reservoir and storage yard are now on the site. The facility would have been a quarters for 10 water company employees.

However, the council agreed with residents’ concerns that the flow of trucks during the day would increase traffic congestion and pollution in the residential area.

“The increase in traffic flow, noise and pollution levels will interfere with the comfort of people living in the area,” resident Francisco Torres told the council.

Water company representatives at the meeting said they must search for an alternative property, which could prove costly.
