A 19-year-old Camp Pendleton Marine was shot to death Saturday night in a North Park house, San Diego police said.

Officers found the Marine on the floor of the house, in the 4000 block of Arizona Street, at 9:45 p.m. Saturday. He had been shot once in the chest, officers said.

Seven other people were in the house at the time of the shooting, police said. Before officers arrived, one of those seven left the house, taking a handgun, police said.

Later, that person called police, who were led to a 9-millimeter handgun in a yard next to the house.

Police said in a statement it was unclear how the shooting occurred.

The Marine, whose identity was not released pending notification of relatives, was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital.
