Ventura’s Williams Earns WSC Honor in Basketball

Andrea Williams of Ventura College has been honored as the Western State Conference women’s basketball player of the week.

Williams had 18 points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals in the Condors’ 66-63 victory over Santa Barbara last week. Ventura (18-6) leads the WSC North Division with a 6-1 record.

Former Alemany High Coach Pat Blackburn has been hired as linebacker coach at Cal State Northridge, replacing Rick Gamboa.

Blackburn, 35, compiled a 20-20 record in four seasons at Alemany. His overall head coaching record is 32-28, including two seasons at Montclair Prep.

In another Northridge football development, Eric Banducci, a 6-foot-2, 248-pound nose guard from Santa Monica High, has transferred from UCLA. Banducci has three seasons of eligibility.

Erin Tomblin, 24, has been hired as women’s volleyball assistant at Cal State Northridge.

Tomblin worked in a like position at the University of San Diego for the past two seasons.

Cal State Northridge will hold a three-hour baseball clinic for players and coaches Sunday at 10 a.m. at Matador Field.

Coaches will receive instruction from the Northridge staff, as well as Notre Dame High Coach Bob Mandeville, Montclair Prep Coach Walt Steele and Dr. Phillip Shore, who will speak on nutrition and first aid.

Players ages 7-16 will receive on-field instruction by members of the Matador baseball team.

The seventh Heart Run will be held Sunday, Feb. 9, and features a 5K run and a Walk for Heart at 8:30 a.m., followed by a 10K run at 8:45.

Participants can sign up at 6:45 a.m. the day of the event, and early registration is available at the information desk in the Promenade Mall in Woodland Hills.
