HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Faith Baptist Remains Tied for 1st, 67-60

Faith Baptist High defeated Bel-Air Prep, 67-60, Saturday to remain tied for first place with Crossroads in the Delphic League standings.

It was the ninth consecutive victory for the host Contenders (18-5, 9-1 in league play).

Alex Estrada and Etienne Moore each scored 18 points and teammate Peter Rasmussen scored 17.

Moore had 18 rebounds and Rasmussen 11. Estrada had seven assists.

Faith Baptist held a four-point lead at the end of the first quarter and increased the lead to 32-26 at halftime.

In another boys’ game:

Providence 61, Avalon 52--Hagop Yaglian (19 points) led four players in double figures for Providence (11-8, 6-2) in a Liberty League game at Catalina Island.

Robert Mena scored 13 points and Barry Dabbaghian and Ernesto Godinez each added 11 for Providence.

Providence trailed by eight points at halftime but outscored Avalon by seven in the third quarter before pouring it on with 24 points in the final period.

GIRLS

Ventura 78, Hueneme 41--Senior point guard Wendy Ward had 17 points and nine assists to lead host Ventura (17-3, 10-2) in a Channel League game.

Ventura led, 30-7, after one quarter.

Jesaca Leper scored 16 points and Michelle Arnold had 10 rebounds for Ventura.

Ventura finished 33 for 79 from the field; Hueneme was 15 for 68.

Renee Braithwaite had 11 points and Denise Rea added 10 for Ventura, which outrebounded Hueneme, 62-40. The Cougars led, 46-14, at halftime.

Birmingham 39, Sherman Oaks CES 33--Valery Vargas scored 23 points, including three three-point baskets, to lead visiting Birmingham in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game.
