In another Grossmont 3-A game

Monte Vista 79, Grossmont 54--Marty Ellis’ 35 points and 10 rebounds led No. 3 Monte Vista over Grossmont, which had a 26-point effort from Mike Kingsley. Aaron Elliott added 20 points and 10 rebounds and Matt Ehlke pulled down 11 rebounds for the Monarchs (21-2, 6-1). Grossmont fell to 12-11, 1-6.

Grossmont 2-A League

Valhalla 76, El Cajon Valley 59--Darrick Freeman (15 points, 10 rebounds) and Wayne Sippial combined for 28 points to lead Valhalla (19-7, 6-1). Mike Stadler paced El Cajon Valley (3-16, 1-6) with 26 points.

El Capitan 60, West Hills 49--Trailing, 43-38, after three quarters, El Capitan made four three-pointers in a row and outscored West Hills, 22-6, in the final eight minutes. Chris Wilson and Ben Kindreich led the Vaqueros (11-14, 4-4) with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Mike Campbell scored 15 for West Hills (9-12, 4-3).

Metro Conference

Bonita Vista 93, Mar Vista 89--Frank Peralta scored 30 points and pulled down 15 rebounds to lead the Barons (16-8, 11-1) in a makeup of the first conference game of the season. Gerald Rhoden scored 21, and Mike Hart added 19 and Chaz Abbott 14. Mar Vista (9-12, 4-8) was led by Carlos Quinones (23 points), Mark King (21), Abel Navarez (15) and Ray Chairez (15). Bonita Vista bolted to an 18-1 lead, but the first quarter ended, 34-24.

Coastal League

La Jolla Country Day 63, Bishop’s 47--With its best night of the season from behind the three-point arc, La Jolla Country Day was 10 of 14. Cheng, who had 23 points, only missed once from three-point range, and that was on his last of seven attempt. The Torres (20-3, 11-0) clinched the league title with the victory. Bishop dropped to 14-8, 7-4.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Avocado League

Rancho Bernardo 80, Oceanside 30--Carol Pajarillo had 20 points, Amy Franzen 15 and Robin Blalock and Jessica Porter had 10 apiece for No. 3 Rancho Bernardo (20-3, 11-2).

San Marcos 41, El Camino 30--San Marcos (12-10, 9-4) jumped to a 10-1 lead after one quarter, and received 19 points, 10 rebounds and six assists from point guard Tammy Hinrichs. Candice Fode added 11 points and 11 rebounds and sophomore center Leah Vague eight blocks.

City Harbor League

Christian 60, Marian 38--Tiffany Stutz led the Patriots in a makeup game with 25 points. Christian improved to (15-5, 6-2). Marian, which upset Christian last week, fell to 11-7, 3-4.

Coastal League

Bishop’s 69, La Jolla Country Day 34--Bishop’s (17-5, 6-1) got 15 points from Kaylie Orr and 12 from Alexa Fontanini.

Grossmont 3-A League

Grossmont 46, Monte Vista 40--Monte Vista, which has already secured at least a tie for the league title, could have clinched outright, but was upended by fourth-place Grossmont (12-12, 3-4). The Foothillers’ Ambyr Phoenix scored 19 points, 12 in the fourth quarter, and Desiree Foggiano added nine points and 14 rebounds. Lorraine Watson led Monte Vista (15-6, 6-1) with 16 points. The Monarchs made just six of 21 free throws.

Grossmont 2-A League

El Cajon Valley 75, Valhalla 50--Sophomore center Tanya Strong had a triple double--16 points, 23 rebounds and 10 blocks--and county scoring leader Heather Holm reached her normal 30 points, making 17 of 22 free throws, for 10th-ranked El Cajon Valley (19-4, 6-1).

El Capitan 54, West Hills--29--El Capitan (12-11, 3-5) had three players in double figures, including Stacie Terry with a game-high 18 points. West Hills fell to 6-14, 2-5.

Metro Conference

Chula Vista 104, Sweetwater 24--It was the highest-scoring game in the nine-year coaching tenure of Chula Vista’s Kim Mathis. Allison Hines’ busy night consisted of 35 points, 10 steals and 11 rebounds for the Spartans (11-11, 9-4). Teammates Jennifer Benitez added 22 points and Shalanda Fuller contributed 21 points. Sweetwater is 0-16, 0-13. Chula Vista led, 49-12, at the half.

Palomar League

Poway 79, Vista 19--Jamie Shadian had 18 points, including three three-pointers, and Allison Brady had 15 points for top-ranked Poway (21-3, 12-1). Vista is 5-18, 0-13.

Fallbrook 56, San Dieguito 27--Stacey Fordice scored 14, Erin Nicholas 11 and Marcia Jeffries 10 to lead Fallbrook (13-9, 8-5). Catherine Taylor had 10 points for San Dieguito (8-14, 2-11).
