Palomar League
Poway 78, San Dieguito 23--No. 1 Poway (22-3, 12-1) won the league title outright in the final game of the season. Poway has won its past two games by 55 and 60 points, respectively.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Grossmont 3-A League
Monte Vista 81, Mt. Miguel 44--Third-ranked Monte Vista (22-2, 7-1) got 18 points from Marty Ellis and 17 points and 12 rebounds from Matt Ehlke. Paul Watson, who scored 15, had seven steals, and Aaron Elliott scored 13. Reggie Jones had 16 for Mt. Miguel. The Monarchs led 21-6 after one quarter and 42-18 after two.
Granite Hills 62, Grossmont 52--Bobby Allums scored 24 points and pulled down 13 rebounds, and Bill Wade added 15--including nine of 10 from the free-throw line--to lift Granite Hills (13-9, 4-4). Grossmont (12-12, 1-7), which led by six at halftime, got 26 points form Mike Kingsley. Granite Hills made 13 of 16 free throws in the fourth quarter, and 20 of 27 in the game, despite shooting just 55% on the year. The Eagles also held a 37-19 rebounding edge.
Grossmont 2-A League
Santana 63, El Cajon Valley 52--Doug Schultz scored 21 points and Mark Bennett added 15 for Santana (7-14, 4-4). El Cajon Valley fell to 3-16, 1-6.
Valhalla 74, West Hills 47--The Norsemen, having wrapped up their fourth consecutive league title, added icing to the cake by improving to 20-7, 7-1. Mike Pettigrew had 20 points, 16 of which came in Valhalla’s 19-3 second quarter. Wayne Sippial added 17, while Mike Campbell (19 points) led West Hills (9-13, 4-4).
1-A Coastal League
Bishop’s 47, Mtn. Empire 33--Nelson Ackerly scored 14 points and Neal Hansch 12 to lead The Bishop’s School (15-8, 8-4). Mtn. Empire held the ball, keeping the score down, but began fouling with three minutes left and a 35-31 deficit. Bishop’s responded by making 10 of 12 free throws. Garrett Guess added 11 for Bishop’s, while Gilbert Gonzalez had 24 for Mtn. Empire.
