Share

A 21-year-old Diamond Bar man was shot early Sunday morning while leaving a friend’s apartment complex.

Sax Sundara was saying goodby to his friends about 4 a.m. in their open doorway with his back to the street when someone shot him in the leg, police said. Sundara had been visiting friends in the 2000 block of Maple Street after a party in Anaheim that night.

He was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana for surgery. A hospital spokeswoman said Sundara was in good condition Sunday afternoon.

“It was like a dream,” said Sundara, a Cal State Fullerton student. “I didn’t know I had been shot. I felt numb. I heard about six shots, but I didn’t see anything.”

Police do not have a motive or suspect in the pre-dawn shooting, but Sgt. Robert Durham said it could be gang-related.
