Lefebvre said his goal was for his team to be competitive this year, which would be a significant improvement. “We’ve been working our butts off,” Lefebvre said. “To be honest, the toughest part is getting the kids to believe in themselves. Last year, we’d play Mater Dei and the kids would watch them warming up and go, ‘Wow.’ They have to believe they belong on the same field with those teams.” There is some talent to make the Eagles believe. McGrath was 0-8 last season, but had an earned-run average of 2.76. He also hit .298. Sees hit .326 last season and stole a team-high eight bases. That number should improve. “We’re going to have to run and we’re going to have to play little ball,” Lefebvre said. The preseason schedule should help the Eagles get ready for league play. Among the teams they will face are Edison, Marina and Troy, three solid programs. “We’ll be prepared to play at a higher level,” Lefebvre said. “We’re getting there.” But they might not arrive until next season, when the Eagles move to the Sea View League.
