Edison may have finished fourth in the Sunset League, but the Chargers have shown their first two Division I-A playoff opponents the advantages of playing in a strong league. Paje, at 5 feet 4, scored 15 points in a 68-36 victory over Century in a qualifying game Wednesday. Friday, she scored 19 points, including two three-pointers in the fourth quarter of a 53-49 victory over El Monte Arroyo. Paje made seven of 18 three-point shots in the two games and now has 90 three-pointers in two seasons. If she stays on that pace, Paje will surpass Southern Section career leader Aimee McDaniel, who made 137 in four seasons for Brea-Olinda. “It helps playing for Edison, but she can put them in,” said Coach Phil Abraham, who also coached Debbie Fischer, the section’s second-leading career three-point shooter (115). Melanie Iwamasa, the Chargers’ other three-point threat, averaged 16.5 points in the two victories.

Other top performers:

Heidi Elliott, who averaged 19.5 points and 17.5 rebounds in Capistrano Valley Christian’s Division V-AA playoff victories--66-39 over Palos Verdes Chadwick and 54-48 over Brentwood.

Sommer McLane, who had 24 points and 17 rebounds in Fullerton’s 60-49 victory over Kennedy in a Division II-A playoff game.

Adara Newidouski, who had 32 points and 13 rebounds in Dana Hills’ 51-46 loss to Moore League champion Lakewood in the Division I-AA playoffs.

Chrissy Whalen, who scored two goals in Mater Dei’s 3-1 victory over Chino Don Lugo in a 4-A soccer wild-card match and another goal in the Monarchs’ 3-1 victory over Palos Verdes Peninsula.
