The Master’s College never found its rhythm and, as a result, Biola never lost its momentum Tuesday in a key NAIA District 3 basketball game at Master’s.

Given those circumstances, Biola’s 99-73 victory seemed apparent nearly five minutes before halftime.

The victory gives Biola the top seeding in the NAIA District 3 tournament, which starts next week.

“It was one of those nights where we got some momentum going offensively,” Biola Coach Dave Holmquist said.

The Eagles clawed to a 10-point lead with 4 minutes 55 seconds to play in the first half after Keishaun Darthard converted a steal into a dunk. Darthard scored 12 of his team-high 25 points in the opening 20 minutes.

Biola (27-3, 12-1 in district play) never looked back after that, going up by as many as 15 points before the intermission.

Biola, ranked sixth nationally among NAIA District 3 schools, built on its first-half momentum with a 16-10 run over the first 6:30 of the second half to go ahead, 53-34. The lead grew to as many as 30 points in the second half.

Master’s (20-10, 10-2) was led by Damon Greer, who scored 13 points. Forward Jason Webster, the Mustangs’ leading scorer, was held to just two points, nearly 16 below his average. And he didn’t get those points until just four minutes remained.

The Master’s has won only six games against Biola in 50 meetings.
