Charles Barkley and Jayson Williams probably had seen enough anyway.

Barkley and Williams of the Philadelphia 76ers were ejected after a brawl during the third quarter of 136-84 rout by the Charlotte Hornets Thursday night at Charlotte.

The 76ers, who suffered the worst defeat in franchise history, were trailing, 90-51, at the time of the fight.

With 4:28 remaining in the quarter, Barkley was called for an offensive foul after colliding with Charlotte’s J.R. Reid. Reid and Barkley exchanged words, Barkley threw the ball at the Charlotte forward and both benches cleared.

The fight spilled into the stands under Philadelphia’s basket and resulted in a pile of players, coaches, officials, security guards and even a few fans.

“Charles sunk real low,” said Reid, who also was ejected. “What he did isn’t called for in this league.”

Said Barkley: “We just didn’t play well, but you don’t humiliate a team when they are up by 20 or 30 points. Our team will remember this game.”

Johnny Dawkins of the 76ers was thrown out earlier in the third quarter after getting two technical fouls for arguing with officials after Barkley got a flagrant foul for pushing 5-foot-3 Mugsy Bogues.

Dell Curry had 22 points and Anthony Frederick added 20 for the Hornets and Kenny Payne had 24 points for the 76ers.

Charlotte’s Johnny Newman broke a bone in his right hand in the second quarter and will be out four to six weeks.
