OUTLOOK

Conlin, who coached the Trojans to their last league championship (1986), returns for the second season of his second stint as coach. The team has talented athletes such as Dowdy, a football and basketball standout, and Apana, a football player. Fuller and Breckenridge start for the soccer team. But Conlin said the team needs to get better fundamentally to improve on its last-place finish (tied with Woodbridge) of last season. Hagins, who was a second-team, all-league selection at catcher his freshman and sophomore years, batted .360 last season. Conlin says he is a Division I prospect. Apana and Fuller should be able to cover most of the outfield with their speed. Conlin likes his middle infield of Young and Anthony, up from the junior varsity team. But the pitching is untested. Dowdy and Bouchard got only a little action last season and MacDermott had a 2.40 ERA on the junior varsity. “We know it’s going to be a struggle, but we think we can compete for one of the three playoffs spots,” Conlin said.
