Discrimination Against Girls

Share

It should be no surprise that girls emerge from high school with lower self-esteem than boys. The curriculum teaches girls and boys that it is the boys who will grow up to emulate the role models they read about. For 12 years of school, girls are required to read about the accomplishments of men, seldom about women. What’s in the curriculum that makes a girl proud to look forward to being a woman, compared to the pride the curriculum offers boys? Women’s History Month, a token concession, is the best the girls can hope for until there is gender equity in the teaching of not only history, but all subjects. All women have been discriminated against because they were forced to learn men’s history and never learned their own. Self-esteem comes from being proud of your heritage.
