HOLLYWOOD : Salvation Army Gets Grant for Apartments
The Salvation Army’s Southern California Division Tuesday announced it has received a $6.7-million federal grant to build a 99-unit apartment complex for low-income seniors in Hollywood.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded the Salvation Army the grant for what will be known as the Hollywood Silvercrest Residence. The grant will cover about 80% of the construction costs, with additional funds to be sought from other government sources, said Lt. Col. David P. Riley, the Salvation Army’s divisional commander. The complex will be built on property owned by the organization in the 5900 block of Hollywood Boulevard, he said.
The Silvercrest Residence will be part of a larger Salvation Army project located on the same 1.7-acre site, which will include a 20-bed shelter for runaway and homeless teen-agers and a youth center where recreational and tutoring programs will be offered.
