PREP ROUNDUP : Sapico’s Three Victories Help Sonora Win Meet
Derick Sapico won three individual events and anchored Sonora’s winning 440-yard relay team, leading the Raiders to a 65-62 victory over Savanna in a nonleague boys’ track and field meet Thursday at Savanna.
Sapico took the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 10 inches; the triple jump at 40-9, and the 110-yard high hurdles in 16.5 seconds.
In other nonleague boys’ track and field:
Brea-Olinda 93, Fullerton 45, La Serna 21--Matt Savala won the 100 and 200 meters and the high jump, and Chris Conrad won the shotput and discus for Brea-Olinda.
In nonleague girls’ track and field:
Sonora 82, Savanna 44--Casie Lozano won the 100-yard dash (11.4), the 220 (26.6) and long jump (14-10) and anchored Sonora’s winning 440-yard relay team. Lisa Knott won the 100-yard low hurdles (16.9) and the 330-yard hurdles (49.1).
In nonleague golf:
La Quinta 205, Newport Harbor 220--Robert Nelson shot a three-under-par 33 at Mile Square to help La Quinta take the lead in a match that will be completed March 12 at Costa Mesa.
Orange 210, Costa Mesa 225--Dave Villalovos shot a one-under-par 36 at the Costa Mesa Los Lagos course for Orange (0-2) in a match to be completed next week.
In nonleague boys’ tennis:
Esperanza 9, Canyon 9 (Esperanza wins on games, 90-87)--Junior Eric Lin swept at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-2, 6-2, for host Canyon (0-2).
Marina 9, Los Alamitos 9 (Marina wins on games, 82-70)--Noel Zosa swept at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-2, for host Marina (2-0).
In nonleague boys’ volleyball:
Capistrano Valley 3, Ocean View 0--Aaron Garcia had 16 kills and Steve Thornton had 11 for the visiting Cougars (1-0).
Cypress 3, Bolsa Grande 0--Mark Hertz served 15 consecutive points to close out the match, 15-4, 15-11, 15-1, for visiting Cypress (2-0).
