SOUTHERN SECTION GIRLS’ BASKETBALL : Brea-Olinda Wins Fourth Title in Row

Brea-Olinda won its fourth consecutive Southern Section girls’ basketball title by defeating Inglewood Morningside, 49-35, at UC Irvine in the Division III-AA final Saturday.

Brea-Olinda led, 33-26, after three quarters and went on an 11-4 run during the first five minutes of the fourth quarter to take control.

Morningside (17-11) came into the game with four consecutive Section titles.

Brea-Olinda (28-2), the defending State Division II champion, was led by Jody Anton’s 24 points.

Brea-Olinda led at halftime, 22-16, after one-for-22 shooting by Morningside during the second quarter.

Rancho Alamitos 68, South Hills 66--Anita Stecker scored with two seconds to play, giving the Vaqueros the Division III-A title.

South Hills (23-3) trailed by as many as 16 points during the third quarter but came back to tie the score, 66-66, on two free throws by Tiffany Hall with 12.2 seconds remaining.

Rancho Alamitos (21-2) did not call a timeout, but Stecker made a turnaround bank shot from the left side of the key.

Alemany 56, Bishop Montgomery 51--Rachel Corelli scored 18 points to lead the Indians (25-4) to their first Southern Section title in four appearances with a victory in the Division II-A championship game.

Mirlen Martinez scored 17 points for Bishop Montgomery.

Gahr 63, Tustin 37--The Gladiators (25-4) outscored the Tillers by 19-4 during the second quarter to take a 33-17 halftime lead and were never threatened after that in the Division II-AA final.

Shannon Gale scored 16 points and Allison Arredondo and Stefanie Horn each added 14 for Gahr.

Thousand Oaks 76, Buena 46--Michelle Palmisano scored 26 points for the Lancers (28-1), who won the I-A title for the second consecutive year over the Bulldogs (25-3).
