Chatsworth 9, Kennedy 1--Senior right-hander Jesse Yeomans, a transfer from Reseda, threw a two-hitter, struck out seven and walked three in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Kennedy.

Doug Dean and Brandon Nickens each had two hits for Chatsworth (4-4, 1-0).

Left-hander Tom Manning (1-2) took the loss for Kennedy (4-2, 0-1).

Taft 4, Cleveland 1--Despite battling control problems, Taft’s Justin Siegel and Mike Sweeney combined on a three-hitter in a Northwest Valley Conference opener at home.

Siegel (2-1) struck out eight and walked nine in four innings. Sweeney allowed two hits, struck out four and walked four to earn his first save. Stacey Kleiner homered and singled for Taft (3-2-1, 1-0).

Granada Hills 4, Reseda 1--Senior right-hander Heath McElwee pitched 4 2/3 innings of one-hit relief as host Granada Hills rallied to win a Northwest Valley Conference opener.

McElwee (3-0) started in left field but replaced right-hander Matt Livingston with one out in the third. He struck out four and walked none.

Rob Weinzimer and Scott Berger each had two hits for Granada Hills.

Birmingham 5, North Hollywood 1--Junior center fielder Casey Doherty had two hits and knocked in five runs to lead visiting Birmingham to victory in a Valley Pac-8 Conference opener. Sophomore right-hander Steve Brown (1-1) allowed five hits and struck out six.

Nathan Wrought had two of North Hollywood’s five hits.

Sylmar 7, Canoga Park 0--Jimmy Lemos and Jose Villafana each had two hits in a Valley Pac-8 opener at Lanark Park.

Villafana (2-1) threw a two-hitter, struck out eight and walked one for Sylmar (3-5, 1-0).

Oxnard 2, Santa Barbara 0--Mondo Carrillo tossed a two-hit shutout and struck out nine to lead host Oxnard to victory in a Channel League opener.

Bobby Meek walked, took second on a passed ball and scored on Ruben Torres’ double in the fifth inning for the only run Oxnard (2-4, 1-0) needed.

Buena 7, Hueneme 3--Brandon Knight and Garrett Richins each went two for four with a double as host Buena (5-1, 1-0) won a Channel League opener.

Palmdale 5, Canyon 4 (eight innings)--Brian Doke’s one-out single scored Jermone Payton in the eighth inning for host Palmdale (2-3, 1-0) in a Golden League opener.

Payton (three for four) had walked and advanced to second on a sacrifice.

Santa Clara 4, Calabasas 3--Eric Starna, who reached on a fielder’s choice, scored the winning run in the seventh inning on a wild pitch as host Santa Clara (3-2, 1-0) won a Frontier League opener.

Sophomore Fernando Garcia (1-1) went the distance for Santa Clara. He struck out seven, walked two and allowed seven hits.

Oak Park 9, Carpinteria 0--Right-handers Jeff Gibbons and Eric Kane combined on a one-hitter to lead Oak Park (3-1, 1-0) in a Tri-Valley League opener at Carpinteria.

Eric Pryor and Damian Delfino each had three hits for Oak Park.

Pasadena 5, Hoover 1--Andrew Spencer and Gabriel Enriquez each had two hits for Hoover in a Pacific League game at Pasadena.

Trailing, 3-0, Hoover (3-1-1, 0-1-1) failed to score with the bases loaded and none out in the third. Pasadena scored twice in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-0 lead.

Flintridge Prep 15, Campbell Hall 3--Andreas Fehrle and Sam Park each had two hits and Derrek Ransford hit a solo home run for visiting Campbell Hall (1-3) in a nonleague game.

Littlerock 5, Mojave 5--Sonny Tuft drove in the tying run with a one-out single in the eighth in a nonleague game that was called at the conclusion of the inning because of darkness.

Pat Diehl, Pat Leach and Tuft each had two hits for host Littlerock (3-5-1).

Antelope Valley 4, Ridgecrest Burroughs 3--Raul McNaughton and John Narhuminti combined on a five-hitter for Antelope Valley (2-4-1, 1-0) in a Golden League game at Burroughs.

McNaughton (1-2) allowed three runs--one earned--on five hits in six innings. Narhuminti retired two of three batters for his first save.

Providence 8, Queen of Angels 0--Robert Mena struck out 15 in a one-hitter as host Providence (2-0, 1-0) won a Liberty League opener.

SOFTBALL

Camarillo 13, Royal 0--Junior right-hander Laura Richardson came within two errors of recording a perfect game but finished with her second no-hitter of the season in a Marmonte League game at Rancho Simi Park.

Richardson (4-1) struck out 15 and walked none, but was victimized by fielding errors in the second and seventh innings.

Ginny Mike and Andrea Soto each went three for five for Camarillo (5-2, 1-1), and Miki Mangan tripled twice. Royal is 2-5, 1-1.

Thousand Oaks 4, Westlake 1 (eight innings)--Carrie Russell allowed only three hits and struck out 14 for visiting Thousand Oaks in a Marmonte League game.

Thousand Oaks had only two hits but scored three runs in the eighth, including two unearned runs.

Simi Valley 4, Channel Islands 1--Kris Lufkin’s groundout scored Tracy Hansen (two for three), who had tripled, to break a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning of a Marmonte League game at Oxnard.

Taina Tande and Sara Griffin combined on a one-hitter for Simi Valley (8-1, 2-0). Channel Islands is 2-4, 0-2.

Crescenta Valley 9, Flintridge Sacred Heart 0--Stacy Atwood (6-0) recorded 10 strikeouts in five innings in a nonleague victory.

Crescenta Valley (6-0) has allowed one earned run this season.

Poly 23, Eagle Rock 14--Tami O’Dell was four for four, including a double and home run, and had four runs batted in for host Poly (1-2) in a nonleague game.

El Camino Real 3, Sylmar 2--Jennifer Gould doubled home the winning run with two out in the sixth inning for host El Camino Real (4-2) in a nonleague game.

La Reina 6, Chaminade 0--Michelle St. Pierre tossed a four-hitter and Val Serpico doubled twice twice and drove in three runs for visiting La Reina (5-2) in a nonleague game.

St. Pierre (4-2) struck out five and did not walk a batter.

Cleveland 14, Bell 6--Michale Guzman and Liz Lopez each had two hits for visiting Cleveland in a nonleague win.

Jennifer Finkbeiner (1-1) went the distance for Cleveland, allowing two hits and striking out three.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Ventura 11, Buena 7--Senior Darren Potkey swept all three of his singles matches, losing just one game, to help Ventura (3-4) improve to 2-2 in Channel League play. The Ventura doubles team of Aaron Acosta and Mark Celeste also swept three matches.

BOYS’ GOLF

Hart 398, Antelope Valley 455--Hart’s Jason Gore shot a three-under-par 33 on the back nine at the Antelope Valley Country Club and finished with a three-under 69.
