SANTA CLARITA : Repair of Bridge to Take Up to 6 Weeks

Share

Work crews will spend up to six weeks repairing a Santa Clarita bridge damaged when a sewer line broke. But traffic congestion in the area was eased after the city opened a westbound lane Wednesday.

Traffic on the Valencia Boulevard bridge was reduced from five to three lanes Saturday after the pipeline ruptured, spilling an estimated 600,000 gallons of raw sewage into the Santa Clara River.

Although an additional traffic lane has been reopened, the city is encouraging motorists to use alternative routes, such as Newhall Ranch Road, until repairs are completed, said Gail Foy, a city spokeswoman.

Crews are replacing the foundation of the bridge, Foy said.
