COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Rancho Santiago’s Fontana Shuts Down Golden West
Mike Fontana pitched a two-hitter and Rancho Santiago scored eight runs in the final three innings for an 8-0 victory over Golden West in Orange Empire Conference baseball Wednesday at Golden West.
Fontana (6-0) didn’t allow a hit until the seventh inning. He struck out five and walked none. Fontana faced only 30 batters, three over the minimum. In his last two starts, both against Golden West, he has allowed two runs and seven hits in 18 innings.
Derek Brown had two hits, including a two-run single in the ninth, and Aaron Butler and Tito Quiles added two hits each for Rancho Santiago (15-7-1), the conference leader at 8-3-1. Starter Chico Limas (1-1) took the loss for Golden West (11-10-1, 4-7).
In another conference baseball game:
Fullerton 9, Orange Coast 3--Aaron Charlton (4-3) pitched an eight-hitter with 10 strikeouts for visiting Fullerton (13-11, 6-7). Mark Rushlow had a two-run single as Fullerton scored seven runs in the seventh inning to take an 8-1 lead. OCC is 11-7, 5-6.
In Orange Empire Conference softball:
Riverside 2, Orange Coast 0--Orange Coast managed only five hits in a meeting between Orange Coast Conference contenders. OCC (16-6, 6-2) is in second, a half-game behind Riverside (14-9, 7-2).
