PREP ROUNDUP : Los Alamitos Swimmers End Losing Streak to El Dorado

Los Alamitos beat El Dorado, 127-42, in an Empire League boys’ swim meet Tuesday at Los Alamitos, the first victory for the Griffins in the series in 12 years.

The Griffins won every event. Dan Lupash won the 200-yard individual medley (2:06.68) and the 100 backstroke (59.77). He was also part of two winning relay teams.

David Michaels won the 200 freestyle (1:50.18) and the 500 freestyle (4:58.98) and was part of two winning relay teams as well.

In Empire League girls’ swimming:

Los Alamitos 98, El Dorado 71--Junior Michelle Herron took first in two events, the 100 freestyle (59.55) and the 100 backstroke (1:05.34). Los Alamitos won all the relays as well, the 200 medley, (1:57.47), the 200 freestyle (1:52.41) and the 400 freestyle (4:01.30).

In the Cypress softball tournament:

Katella 2, El Modena 1 (9 innings)--Lisa Helg had a run-scoring single to tie the score and later scored on an error for Katella in the ninth inning. Kelsi Armbruster pitched a four-hitter for Katella.

Cypress 9, Newbury Park 0 (mercy rule, five innings)--Monica Jimenez pitched a no-hitter with nine strikeouts. Jimenez has not allowed an earned run in four games for Cypress (4-0).

Kennedy 2, Los Alamitos 0--The Fighting Irish (3-2) got consecutive hits by Danielle McLeod, Lisa Pitt and Kristi Hensel to score their first run with two outs in the fourth inning of the quarterfinal game.

In Sea View League boys’ tennis:

Woodbridge 15, Newport Harbor 3--Rajeev Saggar swept at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-0, 6-3, while Steve Shevel and Brian Lynn swept at No. 1 doubles in the league opener for Woodbridge (8-1, 1-0).

In nonleague boys’ tennis:

Esperanza 14, Servite 4--Mike Hammer swept at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-4, 6-1, for host Esperanza (8-0).

In Sunset League boys’ volleyball:

Edison 3, Marina 0--Joe McCarthy had 19 kills as visiting Edison (2-2, 2-0) rolled to a 16-14, 15-10, 15-4.
