A 19-year-old man on his way to a college fraternity party was killed late Friday when the car in which he was riding with four other teens veered off Highway 52, ejecting all occupants.

Jon Robert Ferguson of San Diego was killed when the 1988 BMW in which he was riding ran off the westbound lanes of the freeway as it tried to pass between two cars while traveling at speeds in excess of 100 m.p.h.

The car struck a fence and threw all five teens out of the car.

The victim, who along with the others was en route to the party in the Mesa College area, suffered massive head and body injuries, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Authorities would not identify the other youths in the car.

However, they said the driver, who suffered serious injuries, had been charged with felony drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter.

The other three passengers sustained moderate injuries.
