The official Academy party is the Governor’s Ball, which this year will be in the tented plaza of the Music Center so guests can dash right over from the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

Agent Irving Lazar will once again take over Spago for his annual fete, an all-night thing that starts when the broadcast does and ends . . . whenever.

El Rescate, providing legal, social and advocacy services to Central American refugees, hosts its annual Oscar party at Maple Drive restaurant in Beverly Hills, where Laura Dern, Jonathan Demme and Oliver Stone are expected to show, and Deborah Harry will perform.

The Mondrian Hotel stages its fifth annual Oscar night party, this one a benefit for the Venice Family Clinic, co-sponsored by Buzz magazine and the vodka-esque spirit Jubilaeum. Expected are Tommy Davidson, Howie Mandel and Rhonda Shear. Restaurants providing the chow include Schatzi on Main (that’s Ahhhhnold’s restaurant), Border Grill, Orso and Chaya Brasserie.

Young Hearts of Variety Children’s Charities, which raises funds for handicapped, underprivileged and abused children, holds its second annual Academy Awards night party at Twenty/20. The evening features dancing, a buffet and entertainment.

The Shark Club plays host for a benefit for the American Cancer Society and the Junior League of Los Angeles. Revelers can compete in a celebrity look-alike contest and win door prizes.
