A 28-year-old man was shot and wounded in his home early Monday by robbers who apparently followed a woman to the home she shares with the victim, police said.

Lam Ngo was listed in serious condition at UCI Medical Center in Orange with a gunshot wound in the back, a hospital spokeswoman said. There were no other reported injuries, police said.

Ngo was one of four people--two men and two women--at home sleeping when four or five men burst into their home in the 13900 block of Jasperson Way and began stealing an undetermined amount of cash and jewelry, Sgt. Mike Mittelstaedt said.

The intruders apparently followed one of the women residents home as she drove back from a Fullerton dance club early Monday, Mittelstaedt said.

“The timing of her coming home and these guys barging into her home lends credence” to the theory that they may have followed her, he said.

The residents of the home, whom police did not identify, were roused from sleep and told to lie face-down on the floor, police said.

One of the robbers tied Ngo’s hands while he lay in his bed, he told police investigators during a hospital interview. Moments later a second robber apparently shot Ngo after he tried to get out of bed to see what was happening, police said.

When the robbers left his room, Ngo ran outside and found a phone to call police at 2:26 a.m., Mittelstaedt said.

The robbers, described as in their mid-20s, were in the home about 10 minutes before fleeing in two vehicles, described as a small, white foreign car and a large, dark-colored American car.
