HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL : Torrey Pines’ Defense Gets the Last Word on Poway

Share

Freshman Jeff Jahries came away the unlikely hero as Torrey Pines won, 1-0, over sixth-ranked Poway in a Palomar League baseball game Wednesday in Del Mar.

Jahries’ perfect throw from right field with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to catcher Jamie Sommercamp nailed Poway’s David Kelch at the plate to end the game.

Moments earlier, Torrey Pines had turned a rundown into a strange double play, which left Kelch at second. Kelch then attempted to score on a single to right by Matt Turner.
