World Boxing Council welterweight champion James (Buddy) McGirt scored a controversial non-title knockout victory over Delfino Marin at Ft. Worth.
McGirt, who is scheduled to defend his title against Patrizio Oliva of Italy on June 20 in Venice, dominated the first four rounds despite having a point deducted for a low blow in the third.
In the fifth, another apparent low blow sent Marin to the canvas, but the referee didn’t rule the punch low and counted him out with 1:55 elapsed. McGirt is 56-2-1.
