Bob Hinman, an assistant football coach at Loara High School for 15 years, has been named varsity coach at Santa Ana, replacing Dick Hill.

Hinman, 33, was chosen over Santa Ana assistant Murphy Tammaro and former Cal State Fullerton and Esperanza Coach Pete Yoder.

Hinman has served as Loara’s offensive coordinator and has coached several positions under the county’s second-winningest coach, Herb Hill, at Loara. He replaces the county’s winningest coach, Dick Hill.

“I guess you could say I’m facing an uphill climb,” Hinman said. “I feel like I’m replacing a living legend in Dick Hill, but I also worked under one of the great ones in Herb Hill.”

Hinman will teach English and physical education at Santa Ana.
