Aid Sought for Riot Victims

Donations ranging from cash to baby clothes are being sought by local relief agencies to aid victims of the violence that erupted in Los Angeles after the verdicts in the Rodney King case.

The Salvation Army is seeking non-perishable food items, clothing, furniture and other house hold items that can be dropped off at any Salvation Army Corps Community Center or Thrift Store locations throughout the county. Volunteers are also needed to pack food boxes destined for Los Angeles. For more information call 239-8027, Ext. 44.

Cash donations are being accepted by the Red Cross to help feed and lodge riot victims, Red Cross spokeswoman Nancy Jordan said. Checks made out to the Red Cross can be sent to P.O. Box 85224, San Diego, CA 92186.

The Mt. Erie Baptist Church is also accepting cash, food and clothing that can be delivered to 511 S. 47th St., or call 262-0708. Love’s Gift Hunger Relief Program is collecting the same items plus baby clothes and furniture. Call 225-1094.
