COUNTYWIDE : Gray Skies Expected to Stay for a While

Stuck in the muck.

It’s officially called a deep marine layer, but even meteorologists say muck is just as accurate in describing the gray, dreary weather that has settled over Orange County and the rest of the region.

And as miserable as they are, the conditions are here to stay for a while. An unusually deep, moist blanket of air blowing in from the ocean is expected to keep hovering over Orange County and the rest of Southern California through the weekend, bringing more clouds, fog and drizzle.

Weather forecasters say the sun won’t show itself along the coast for at least a week, although inland cities may see an occasional ray of sunshine.

“Everyone’s going to have to keep complaining because I don’t have any good news. We’re stuck in the muck,” said Rick Dittmann, a meteorologist for WeatherData, which provides forecasts for The Times.

Orange County’s temperatures will stay in the 60s along the coast. Inland, high temperatures will be in the mid-70s and lows in the upper 50s and lower 60s.

The good news about the gray skies is that air quality throughout the region is about the best it can be. Although May is usually the beginning of smog season, all pollutants were in the “good” range Monday throughout Orange County and the rest of the Los Angeles basin.
