Former staff members at the University of Pittsburgh broke NCAA rules by giving football players money, meals and clothing and by giving recruits limousine rides and deluxe hotel rooms, a report from the school said.
Pitt submitted a report on its internal probe to the NCAA, admitting to 12 violations in its football program from 1986 to January of 1991. Nine possible violations also were detailed in the report.
The violations occurred when Mike Gottfried was the coach and Edward Bozik the athletic director. Gottfried’s contract was bought out after the 1989 season, and he was replaced by Paul Hackett.
