Jim Courier, the newly crowned Italian Open champion, was seeded first in the French Open based on the new Assn. of Tennis Professionals Tour rankings. Courier is the defending champion of the French tournament, which begins May 25.
The French Federation uses the ATP rankings for its men’s seedings.
Stefan Edberg is seeded second, followed by Pete Sampras, Boris Becker, Michael Stich, Michael Chang, Guy Forget and Petr Korda.
