COUNTYWIDE : Weekend Sobriety Checkpoints Set
- Share via
In an effort to curb alcohol-related accidents during the Memorial Day weekend, the California Highway Patrol and the National City police will set up sobriety checkpoints, authorities announced.
The checkpoints began Friday night in National City.
On Sunday, CHP officers will stop motorists driving in Escondido between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m., CHP Capt. Ron Phulps said. The program is a joint effort of the CHP and the Escondido police, Phulps said.
The CHP would not reveal the exact location of the checkpoints.
The project comes after the success of an Escondido New Year’s Eve checkpoint that resulted in the screening of 552 motorists and the arrest of one person for driving under the influence, Phulps said.
