Gabriel Ruelas of Arleta, the No. 1 super featherweight contender in the World Boxing Council rankings, will make what probably will be his final appearance at the Country Club in Reseda on Tuesday night when he takes on Raymond Arce in a scheduled 10-round bout.

Also on the card is Rafael Ruelas, the WBC’s 11th-ranked lightweight. He will fight Francisco Ortiz in a scheduled 10-round bout.

Gabriel, 21, (29-1, 15 knockouts), who began his career at the Country Club, was on a fast track to a title bout in 1990 when he brought an undefeated record into a fight against Jeff Franklin in Las Vegas. But in the seventh round of a bout he was winning easily, he suffered a freak injury when a bone in his elbow was fractured. He did not fight for 12 months and underwent two major operations. Since his return to the ring last year, however, he has been impressive.

In his most recent bout, early in April in Reno, he knocked out Moises Martinez in the first round.

Arce, his opponent at the Country Club, is 24-8 with 18 knockouts.

A victory, according to manager Dan Goossen, would put Gabriel in line for a title fight against champion Azumah Nelson of Ghana within the next five months. Another possibility would be a bout in Australia late this summer against Jeff Fenech, who lost to Nelson earlier this year.

Rafael, 20, has been just as impressive as his older brother. His record of 30-1 with 24 knockouts is marred by only a loss last year in which he was knocked down, misunderstood the count as he waited on one knee and was counted out. In his most recent bout, also early in April, Rafael knocked out Panchito Lopez in the first round.

His opponent, Ortiz, is 28-14-1.

The card begins at 7:30.
