Judy Dickinson had four consecutive birdies on the back nine on her way to a six-under-par 66 and a one-stroke lead after one round of the LPGA Oldsmobile Classic at East Lansing, Mich.

Dickinson birdied the 12th through 15th holes, then parred in to stay ahead of Michelle McGann and Dottie Mochrie. Lauri Merten and Carolyn Hill were two strokes back in the 72-hole tournament over the 6,166-yard layout at Walnut Hills Country Club.

“On the front nine I had a lot of birdie putts and I didn’t make them,” Dickinson said. “But then I started rolling in a few. After three-putting 11, I got a mental boost on 12.”

Dickinson hadn’t won since 1986 until winning the Inamori Classic earlier this season.

McGann rallied to her 67 after making bogeys on the first two holes, scoring an eagle three on the sixth hole.

Sorenstam is at 140, three shots better than first-round leaders Vicki Goetze of Georgia and Audrey Wooding of Stanford, who each had 74s.

Christy Erb of UCLA, runner-up to Sorenstam last year, was among five players at 147 after a 75.
