No Alternative to Deerhill Park

Share

This is in regard to development of sports facilities at Deerhill Park in Oak Park. Many of the residents in Oak Park support the development of this park. It is a very vocal minority with the support of Save Open Space who do not want the park to be developed.

Oak Park presently has 13,000 to 15,000 residents. We are a growing community whose children and youth are very involved in school and after-school sports activities such as soccer, football, basketball and baseball. Oak Park does not have adequate facilities to meet the sports need of our local residents. Instead of Oak Park, children and youth must go to Agoura, Westlake, Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park to participate in sports.

For Save Open Space to suggest that there is “an alternative place for ball fields” is incorrect. Oak Park High School’s sports fields are packed and are needed for the school’s use. Even with the development of Deerhill and other planned parks, Oak Park will not have adequate park facilities for its future.
