San Diego State outfielder Brad Gennaro learned in a late telephone call Monday night that he had been picked in the sixth round by the Padres in the June Free Agent Draft, and several other area players received their draft notices as well.

Gennaro, an outfielder who batted .392 with nine homers and 52 RBIs at SDSU this spring, said he probably will forgo his senior season with the Aztecs and sign.

“I’m thrilled,” said Gennaro, a St. Augustine High graduate. “I thought maybe I’d go in the 10th round. When I heard the sixth, I was really excited.”
