Marco Saligari won the 16th stage of the Tour of Italy, but Miguel Indurain retained the overall lead for the 14th consecutive day.
Saligari, a 27-year-old Italian who trails Indurain by more than two hours in the overall standings, won the 102.9-mile stage, beating Frenchman Gerard Rue to the finish line by 52 seconds.
Claudio Chiappucci finished sixth in the stage, boosting him to second in the overall standings. American Andy Hampsten rose from sixth to fifth overall and trails Indurain by 3:26.
