Three San Fernando Valley high schools have been awarded grants by the Northrop Corp. in recognition of their excellence in mathematics and science instruction, officials announced.

The three are among six Los Angeles Unified School District high schools selected by Northrop to receive $1,000 grants to support their math or science programs, said Jane Pollock of the district’s senior high schools division.

North Hollywood High School garnered a science award, while Chatsworth High and Ulysses S. Grant High of Van Nuys won math awards. It was the second math award for Grant, which has also won the science award in the past, Pollock said.

The awards were based on enrollment figures and test scores in the schools’ higher-level math and science courses, as well as any innovative programs on each campus, Pollock said.

The other three awardees are Abraham Lincoln and Venice high schools for science and Palisades High School for math.
