Marc Pajot, who was the French skipper in the America’s Cup races, sailed to a convincing victory Friday at the German Grand Prix in Kiel.
It was Pajot’s debut on the World Yachting Grand Prix circuit. His 52-foot Defi Francais ’95 never trailed on the 17-leg course.
British sailor Harold Cudmore sailed the German New Yorker to second place giving him a comfortable second-day lead in the three-day, $90,000 event.
Dennis Conner and Stars & Stripes barely missed finishing in third place. Stars & Stripes was edged by Jorg Diesch and Hawesta. American John Bertrand and Beck’s finished fifth.
Pajot is second in the overall standings, followed by Bernie Beilken, Conner and Diesch.
