Majestic Sweep Beats Technology in Ohio

Majestic Sweep led wire-to-wire to beat favorite Technology by 2 1/2 lengths in the $300,000 Ohio Derby at Thistledown in North Randall, Ohio.

“I was never worried about being caught,” Earlie Fires said after riding Majestic Sweep to victory. He covered the 1 1/8-mile course in a slow 1:50 to win $180,000.

Going off at 3-1 odds behind favorites Technology and Treekster, Majestic Sweep was able to avenge a loss to Technology in the Tropical Park Derby. Technology beat Majestic Sweep by 1 1/2 lengths in the Tropical at Calder.

Technology stayed within striking distance of Majestic Sweep in the Ohio Derby, running third for the first half-mile and moving to second at the three-quarter pole. Majestic Sweep, however, held on for his first victory in his last five starts.

Always Silver was third and Treekster was fourth, followed by Punchy, Frottage, Berkley Fitz and One Red House.
