LOCAL NOTES : County Golfers Gibson, Woods, Booth Finish Well Behind Leaders

Scott Gibson of Huntington Beach and Tiger Words of Cypress each finished with four-day totals of 298, 19 shots behind the winner after Friday’s final round of the Tournament of Champions at the Horseshoe Bend Country Club in Roswell, Ga.

Patrick Vadden of Louisville, Ky., shot a final-round 69 to win the tournament with a total of 279. Gibson shot 76 and Woods 77 in the final round.

In the girls’ division, Kellee Booth of Coto de Caza shot a final-round 77 and finished with a four-day total of 306, 14 shots behind winner Emilee Klein of Studio City. Alicia Allison of Santa Ana shot 85 to finish at 318.

David Warady of Huntington Beach finished third in the 28th stage of the Runner’s World Trans America Footrace as the runners went 55.05 miles from Byers to Anton, Colo.

Peter Hodson of England won the stage in 8 hours 56 minutes 43 seconds. Warady was third in 9:22:01. His overall lead is 6:46:02 after 1,243.2 miles.
