BUENA PARK : City OKs Plan to Improve Knott Ave.

Share

The City Council has agreed to a $1.3-million plan to improve one mile of Knott Avenue, using city and county funds.

The construction project is expected to begin in October and be completed by December. The street will be repaved from Orangethorpe Avenue to Artesia Boulevard, but will not get new water or sewer lines or storm drains.

“This is the biggest project that will be brought to the council for approval this year,” Donald K. Jensen, director of engineering services, told council members Monday. “There will be less water usage and less maintenance involved” because of the changes.

The medians will also undergo a change, with water-hungry plants being replaced by vegetation requires less water.

The plan will increase the life of the street because less water will run off onto the pavement. It will also cut costs in water use and maintenance because the plants will require watering two days a week instead of the current six. Landscape maintenance will be reduced from the current schedule of once a week to twice a month.

The county, under the Arterial Highway Financing Program, will reimburse the city a maximum of $300,000.
