Seven local architects or firms were honored Friday during the American Institute of Architects, Orange County chapter’s 17th Annual Design Awards ceremony in Costa Mesa. Merit awards went to LPA Inc. of Irvine, for Mission Viejo Towne Center; the Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership, Newport Beach, for the California Museum of Science and Industry’s Exhibition Park Master Plan in Los Angeles; and McLarand, Vasquez and Partners Inc., Costa Mesa, for Showplace Square, Los Angeles. Honorable mentions went to the Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership for the UC Santa Barbara Humanities and Social Science building; Mark Singer, Laguna Beach, for the Latter Residences, Newport Beach; the IBI Group, Newport Beach, for the Palm Desert Library; and LPA Inc. for the Parks Headquarters, East Coast National Scenic Area, Republic of China.
