Tiger Woods of Cypress moved closer to his second consecutive U.S. Junior Amateur championship by defeating Scott Persin of Naperville, Ill., 4 and 3, and Ryan Armour of Silver Lake, Ohio, 8 and 6, Friday in Milton, Mass.

Woods, 16, faces Jon Bartlett, 15, of Ocala, Fla., in one semifinal match today. Mark Wilson, 17, of Menomonee Falls, Wis., faces Todd Lynch, 16, of Winston-Salem, N.C., in the other semifinal.

The winners will meet in an 18-hole championship match later in the day.

Woods never trailed Friday and was four under par through 12 holes.

“I just want to win, that’s enough pressure,” Woods said. “If I’m playing good, then I expect to win. If not, I’ll lose. I always want to start off good. I don’t want to get down early.”
