Injuries to pitcher Tom Candiotti and outfielder Eric Davis, suffered during Saturday night’s game, were not serious.

Davis was struck on the left hand by a pitch from Andy Benes during the sixth inning and left the game. But X-rays revealed no broken bones. Davis’ playing status has been listed as day to day.

Davis said the brace he was wearing on his wrist prevented a more serious injury.

Candiotti, the winner of Saturday’s game, had to leave the game after five innings when he was struck in the foot by a line drive off the bat of Benes.

But Candiotti is not expected to miss a start.

“It hurt,” Candiotti said. “I bent down to pick the ball up and it was still spinning. It got me good. But there’s no fracture. It may have caught a little bit of the nerve, but it should be all right.”

Brett Butler extended his hitting streak to 17 games with a bunt single during the fifth inning against Padre starter Jim Deshaies. Butler laid the bunt down with two strikes. Butler had a 23-game hitting streak last season.

Eric Karros’ two RBIs Sunday gave him 50 for the season and helped his bid to become the National League’s rookie of the year. The first baseman is batting .262 and leads the team with 15 home runs.

Karros said he is more comfortable at the plate since becoming a regular.

“Earlier, it was like, on every at-bat, I’ve got to show them,” he said. “You can’t play like that, but everyone has got to go through that. Hopefully, that’s behind me.”
